Profile of the High School Graduate

Open to Growth

The Ateneo de Davao High School student, at the time of graduation has matured as a person-emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, spiritually - to a level that reflects some intentional responsibility for one's own growth. The graduate begins to reach out and to seek opportunities to stretch his/her mind, imagination, feelings and religious consciousness.

Intellectually Competent

By graduation, the Ateneo de Davao High School student will have been able to exhibit a mastery of these academic requirements for advanced forms of education. While these requirements are broken down into many departmental subject areas, the student will have developed intellectual skills and understanding which cut across and go beyond academic requirements for college entrance. Moreover, the student begins to see the need for intellectual integrity in his/her personal quest for religious truth and in his/her response to issues of social justice.

By graduation, the Ateneo de Davao student will have been able to acquire a basic knowledge of the major doctrines and practices of the Catholic Church. The graduate will also have examined his/her own religious feelings and beliefs with a view of choosing a fundamental orientation toward God and establishing a relationship with a religious tradition and/or community. What is said here, respectful of the conscience and religious background of the individuals, applies to the non-Catholic graduate of the Ateneo de Davao. The level of theological understanding of the Ateneo graduate will naturally be limited by his/her level of religious development.

By the time of graduation, the Ateneo de Davao High School student will have been well on the way to establish his/her own identity. The graduate is also on the threshold of being able to move beyond self-interest or self-centeredness in relationship with significant others.

Committed to Doing Justice

The Ateneo de Davao High School student at graduation shall have achieved considerable knowledge of the many needs of local and wider communities and shall have prepared for the way when he/she will take his/her place in these communities as a competent, concerned, and responsible member. The graduate shall have acquired the skills and motivation necessary to live as a person for others. Although this attribute will come to fruition in mature adulthood, some predispositions will have begun to manifest themselves earlier.

In Pursuit of Leadership

By graduation, the Ateneo de Davao student shall have become aware of the difference between actions appropriately taken as an individual and concerted group effort in affecting the outcome of issues in which he/she is interested. He/She shall have learned through study, observation, and experience that some tasks are performed better by individuals acting on their own initiative, and that other projects are better undertaken by group actions, directed, supervised and coordinated by leaders.
